Astral travel is the separation of the 'astral body' from the physical body. Also known as 'astral projection', it is a type of out-of-body experience (OBE), but differs crucially from remote viewing and other forms of OBE. In a normal OBE, such as during remote viewing, only a person's conciousness leaves their body. In astral travel, however, it is the astral body itself that becomes separated from the physical body. According to practitioners of astral travel, we all have seven bodies - one for each of the planes of reality. The astral body exists on the astral plane, and in astral travel it is able to leave its physical casing and move around, unbound by physics or time. The astral plane of reality is said to lie parallel to the physical plane (the one that we perceive and inhabit in normal life), intersecting with it in many places, but also stretching off into other dimensions.
